The Center for Oral Surgery in Las Vegas, Nevada strives to offer a full scope of oral and maxillofacial surgery. Our services include corrective jaw surgery, wisdom tooth removal, and the diagnosis of facial pain, facial injuries and more. We also offer dental implants, which are changing the way our patients live.
Dr. Carlos Letelier provides our patients with a full range of dental implant procedures including zygomatic implants, which are for patients with severe bone loss. It is common for many patients to have been told that they are not candidates for dental implants due to a lack of bone in the upper jaw. However, these patients can benefit from zygomatic implants, which are the latest implant technology. This technology provides an excellent alternative to bone grafting for the severely reabsorbed jawbone with minimal surgical trauma and maximum oral function.
A professor by the name of Per Ingvar Branemark found that the Os Zygomaticus or the zygomatic bone consistently demonstrated dense quality and acceptable bone volume. He deducted that if nature could provide the dense type of bone we already know offers the most predictable anchorage, it would be logical to use this bone as compared to conducting grafting procedures on patients with severe bone loss.
Dr. Branemark and his team treated the first patient with zygomaticus implants in 1989. For the next ten years a follow-up study was conducted wherein the cumulative success rate for this new implant was 96.8%.
Dr. Carlos Letelier is pleased to provide zygomatic implants to patients with severely absorbed upper jaws. We are happy to evaluate any person who has substantial bone loss and who may be a candidate for the zygomatic implants we offer.
Zygomatic implants are longer than ordinary dental implants and are anchored in the very strong bulk of bone that forms the cheekbone. With minimal surgical trauma and maximum oral function, it is possible for Dr. Letelier to do the surgery in one simple stage instead of having to do complex bone grafting procedures in multiple stages.
